Lyre making

A lyre can be made on a weekend course or in any of our workshops. This instrument is often played to young children and used by story-tellers to accompany themselves and makes a very soothing sound.

On our weekend courses we make seven-string pentatonic lyres, carved from elm. Diatonic and chromatic lyres can be made on Tuesday mornings. Gavin is happy to accept commissions and repairs and also sells lyre-making materials.

Weekend courses run from 7.00-9.30 on Friday evening and 9.30–5.00 on Saturday and Sunday.

The cost of a weekend is £135.00 and to buy one is £165.00 to include a carrying bag.
