The Men’s Shed at Nailsworth Community Workshop welcomes men and women of all ages, backgrounds and ability who enjoy practical work and like to make things in a busy, friendly environment.
The groups first project – a giant chess set – was donated to the town of Nailsworth. Since then it has made four beautiful memorial benches one of which is situated in the grounds of Nailsworth Subscription Rooms one in the grounds of Ruskin Mill, the Nailsworth Quarkers Meeting house and Hawkwood College. The bench in Ruskin Mill is in memory of one of the Shed’s founding members wives. We have also worked with the Vale of Berkeley Railway restoring some sack truck and a new notice board for the town council. We are currently working on a music table for Eastwood Park women's prison.
The Men’s Shed movement started in Australia as a means of bringing together men with a similar interest in making things but encouraging them to work in a ‘communal shed’ and reap the benefits of being part of a community.
It provides men (and women) with the opportunity to work on projects in a fully equipped workshop, to learn new skills and to share practical expertise.
Men’s Shed membership is free (all we ask for a a packet of biscuits for break) and anyone interested can pop in on a Tuesday between 1.45-4 pm for a cup of tea and a chat, or call Pam on 07971 737626 for further information.
The Men's Shed is occasionally supported by the Barnwood Trust who introduced us to the idea of the Men’s Shed.
“Men’s Shed to me is a place to come and share workspace and create things, in the company of other like-minded people. A chance to work on my own stuff, or in groups on projects to benefit the community. A space to share ideas, to learn, share and develop skills. A relaxed atmosphere with a lot of banter, laugh, great tea and biscuits. I’ve loved and looked forward to being here each week.”
